Rabbi Israel Abou-Hatzira was a Moroccan-born rabbi and kabbalist. The name Abou-Hatzira has become legendary in fact, story and song among wide circles of modern-day Jews. Menachem Mendel Schneerson known as The Rebbe, was a
prominent Hasidic rabbi who was the seventh and last Rebbe (spiritual leader)
of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. He was fifth in a direct paternal line to the
third Chabad-Lubavitch Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn.
Rabbi Akiva – The Simple Shepherd
Akiva ben Yosef was one of the greatest
Rabbis who ever lived. He was born about 17 years before the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans.
His father Yosef was poor and uneducated, as his father had been before him and
his grandfather before that. As a child Akiva received no education. Instead of
attending school, the boy helped to support his family by taking care of their
sheep.
Rabbi Isaac Luria - The Holy Ari
Rabbi Isaac Luria was a Jewish mystic in Safed. His
name today is attached to all of the mystic thought in Safed. While his direct
literary contribution to the Kabbalistic school of Safed
was extremely minute (he only wrote a few poems), his fame led to the school
and its entire works being named after him.
Rabbi Moshe Ben Nachman (Nachmanides) – “Ramban”
Rabbi Moshe ben Miamon was born in Gerona, where he remained most of his life.Like the Rambam, he was equally distinguished
in both Halacha and Hashkafa. Besides the Rambam (Rabbi Moshe ben Miamon), the
Ramban was probably the greatest and most influential of the Rishonim.

in Algeria.
He learned Torah in the Yeshiva of Kairuwan under the tutelage of Rabbi
Chananel ben Chushiel Gaon. The name of his city became intertwined with his
name, “Rif” stands for Rabbi Yitzchak of Fez, or Rabbi Yitzchak
al-Fasi.
